[TZ GUIDE] I'm a farmer from Tanzania, how do I register and get my free fertilizer?

UPDATE [22 OCT 2020]: New registrations for Action Africa have currently ended. 

 

If you are a Tanzanian Farmer, claim your free fertilizer through these three main steps:

  1. Registration through USSD
  2. Receive eligibility  
  3. Collection at your retailer

1. Registration through USSD

To register as a farmer for Action Africa, all you need is a mobile phone. Follow the steps below to register and find out whether you are eligible for free YaraMila CEREAL fertilizer.

Step 1

Dial *149*46*16#
By registering you agree to the terms & privacy available at http://yara.digital/actionafrica

Step 2

 

Select register for donation or change to Swahili

Step 3

Enter your full name

Step 4

Enter your Tanzanian National ID or Voter's ID number. You will need to bring your ID card when picking up your donation if you’re eligible

Step 5

Select the size of your farm. This is the area of land that you intend to plant your primary crop on and includes any land you are leasing

Step 6

 

Select the main crop you grow on your farm

Select the region your farm is located in (eg. Send '5' for counties starting with the letter 'T')

Select the district your farm is located in (eg. Send '1' for 'Igunga')

Select the ward your farm is located in (eg. Send '1' for wards starting with the letter 'G')

Step 10

You have completed registering

Step 11

If you become eligible to receive the fertilizer donation, we will send you an SMS confirming the details and instructions.

 

2. Receive eligibility

If you are eligible for the donation you will receive the a message from Yara. We will only contact you with the Yara contact name. If you have been contacted by a different number, this could be a case of fraud. Please report this to us here.

3. Collection at your retailer

After receiving your eligibility SMS, you will receive another SMS from Yara that will provide you with more information on where to collect the fertilizer. Once you receive the collection information, you will have 8 days to collect your fertilizer. After that you will no longer qualify for the donation. 

  • This message will contain the name of the retailer, the address of the retailer, and the phone number of the retailer
  • Remember to bring along your National ID or Voter's ID to verify your identity during collection
  • You will need to use the OTP code sent to you during the collection process as well

What to expect during collection 

The retailer will use their YaraConnect app to take down more of your details. This will help us confirm your identity, and help us to create better initiatives for you in the future. Here is the information they will key into their YaraConnect app:

  • A photo of you
  • A photo of your ID
  • Your gender
  • Your date of birth 
  • Your nearest landmark

If your details are successfully submitted, the retailer will begin scanning the QR codes on each of the fertilizer bags. When the bags are successfully scanned, and the retailer confirms the process, you are now free to take the bags of fertilizer. The retailer should not be asking you to pay for the fertilizer.
